The Coe park entrances at park headquarters and Hunting Hollow are open around the clock, every day of the year. The new Dowdy Ranch day-use entrance at the Bell Station gate is open seasonally from 8AM until sunset on weekends and holidays during the dry season from May until mid October. The park headquarters entrance is staffed throughout the year. The Hunting Hollow entrance is staffed on spring and early summer weekends. The Dowdy Ranch visitor center is staffed from 8AM-4PM on the days that the entrance is open at the Bell Station gate on Pacheco pass. At park headquarters, the visitor center is open on weekends from at least 8:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon, and during the busy spring and summer months, we try to keep it open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Park staff are on duty on weekdays too, but they may be in town or in the backcountry. The Hunting Hollow entrance is staffed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from March through June. If you park at headquarters or the Hunting Hollow entrance or enter for overnight use at any entrance, you're required to register and pay fees. If no staff is available, we ask that you self-register at the iron ranger pay stations located at the entrances. You can visit the park during the night, but keep in mind that nighttime visits require extra precautions. Be very careful if you ride or hike after sunset. If you get lost or injured, help won't be available as quickly as it is during the day. |
