PRA Events

The Pine Ridge Association sponsors several major events during the year in locations throughout the park. Experience the seldom visited eastern side of the park including the Orestimba Wilderness, treat Mom to a great breakfast in the outdoors on her special day, run through Hunting Hollow during late spring, enjoy a day with our fuzzy eight-legged friends in the fall. These and a few other outings are in store for you during year at Henry W Coe State Park.

Rain Coats and Rubber Boots

Bring the family and join us for a scavenger hunt near the creek. Come hike along the creek with us and discover what plants and animals exist there. Have you ever seen a newt before? What do you know about the Sycamore trees? Grab your rain coats and rubber boots and and join us to find the answers to questions like these. This event will occur rain or shine so be prepared to wander around the creek.

There will also be a Mountain Bike Clinic for kids.

Maybe there will even be boat races. You just never know.
 

Backcountry Weekend

Bacountry at Coe Park

For one spectacular weekend in the spring, Henry W. Coe State Park opens the gate at Bell's Station on Highway 152 east of Gilroy. Backcountry Weekend is held in the little-traveled east side of the 87,000 acre park each year in late April. This event, sponsored by the Pine Ridge Association and the California Department of Parks and Recreation, allows visitors vehicle access to a remote and beautiful area.
 

Mother's Day Breakfast

Coe Mothers Day BreakfastTreat Mom to a delicious western-style breakfast cooked to perfection and served in a specially selected location in our beautiful park.

We'll provide a great time and entertain with live music as you enjoy a breakfast of scrambled eggs, pork link sausage or vegetarian patty sausage, hot-off-the-grill homemade drop biscuits, country fried potatoes, orange juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and incredibly yummy fresh local strawberries dusted with powdered sugar. Whew!
 

Ranch Day

Bring the family and learn about Ranch Life and the Ranch Animals. There will be all kinds of animals to see and pet including some mini horses. Wander through exhibits and see what life was like on the ranch. There will be lots of crafts for the kids too.

Bring your rubber boots and enjoy the nearby creek.

Hunting Hollow 5K/10K Fun Run and Walk

Backcountry RunThe beautiful Hunting Hollow Valley of Henry W. Coe State Park is the location of the 5K/10K Fun Run and Walk. The course is a relatively flat dirt road that follows the valley occasionally crossing the potentially wet creek to the end of the valley. If you like to splash through water, hope for a wet winter. The 10K turns around just before the road starts climbing one of the nearby hills. The 5K is also an in and out course which turns back halfway up the valley. Late Spring flowers can still be found along the course at this time of the year and large oak, sycamore, and bay trees are scattered throughout the valley floor.

Fall Tarantula Fest and BBQ

Come to the Coe Park Tarantula Fest and rub elbows (so to speak) with some of our fuzzy, friendly eight-legged guests of honor. The event is held at the headquarters campground, which has breathtaking views across the ridges and canyons of the backcountry. With a meal ticket you can sit down and enjoy great home-cooked food at our barbecue.

Take a leisurely nature walk with a volunteer naturalist and search for tarantulas or go on a geocaching hike. Enjoy live music by a jug band of musical Coe Park volunteers and friends. Hang out at our kids' activities table and create Tarantula Fest keepsakes.
